Wrapping Up The Big Bang Theory

Season 3 of The Big Bang Theory has wrapped up for the season, and we are basically left with the status quo. Sheldon is a kook, Leonard and Penny are not dating and Raj and Howard are fond of hi-jinks.

S3 was once again a strong showing for BBT. For my money the best Monday night comedy and one of the top 5 overall, the show remains fresh and smart and hasn't yet resorted to any gimmicky plot lines to get laughs.

Who's finger is that!?

The major plot line of the season was the dating and subsequent break up of Leonard and Penny. Having Penny, and her comic timing, around full time really accentuated the show and gave the guys a perfect female foil. While the breakup was not unforeseen, it did leave a bit of a lag in the plot as it seemed to be more and more difficult to have Penny stopping by Leonard and Sheldon's apartment. Having lived in several apartments, I can say that I rarely saw neighbors from my floor and didn't interact all that much with any of them. Suffice it to say that writers are likely having a tough time getting believable interactions between the players in places other than the hallway or the laundry room.

This leaves us with the question of what will happen in Season 4. You have to know Leonard and Penny will find their way back to each other, as the season finale foreshadowed, but there is the possibility that the tension will be dragged out for an entire season or longer. Mayim Bialik's hilarious appearance at the end of the finale suggests that Sheldon and his love life may get more screen time, and I would anticipate endless possibilities to his turn of events.

That still leaves less room for Penny. Her penchant for tight tank-tops and shorts has to be a draw for at least part of the audience, and she is a strong comic actress in her own right, so I will be very interested to see how the show progresses.
